A good childhood: the science and the spirit of good parenting in the 21st century.

A six-part series on early childhood and parenting drawing on the insights of psychology, philosophy, medicine, education, religion and the law.

This course will be held at St Margaret's College Chapel.

Session 6, March 29     We are here for children. So what does the Church need to hear?
Presenters: The Rt Revd Philip Richardson, Bishop of Taranaki; The Rt Revd Victoria Matthews, Bishop of Christchurch; Revd Charmaine Braatvedt, Vicar of Devonport with a special interest in children's spirituality' Dr Patricia Champion, founder of the Champion Centre at Burwood Hospital.
Open forum: What feeds the soul?; What develops the spirit?; Where is the meeting place between what goes on in churches, and developmental science?

Brush up your Greek

Course Director: Bishop Henry Paltridge

Tuition in reading New Testament Greek is available. Classes meet on twice each month on Wednesdays. Next meeting, 24 March.

Bishop Henry is the retired Bishop of Meru, Kenya. He is keen to assist those with a prior knowledge of Biblical languages to keep their skills up to date.

Cross, Covenant, Communion: A Lenten Study/Retreat Day

Presenter:   Peter Carrell

Open to clergy and laity. Exploring the themes of cross, covenant and communion with reference to John's Gospel and a recent book by Bruce Kaye, Conflict and the Practice of Christian Faith: The Anglican Experiment (2009). Please note that 'covenant' here will focus more on God's covenant with us than the proposed Anglican Covenant.

The day will begin with Daily Office at 9.30 am and conclude with Eucharist at 3 pm. There will be four talks and there will times for reflection, meditation and reading, either in Theology House, or St Mary's Church nearby, or in the grounds of St Mary's.
